About Brocia: Our Editorial and Analysis Standards

About Brocia

Brocia is an independent sleep-product analysis site founded in 2023. Most pillow lists are recycled adjectives written from press releases. We do numbers and sources instead, so you can choose a pillow based on what’s checkable, not what’s marketed.

Our Mission

To help people choose the right pillow through independent, spec-based analysis and honest reviews, without brand influence or hype.

Our Vision

A world where anyone can pick sleep products with confidence, based on published numbers and research instead of marketing claims.

What We Publish

We publish pillow reviews, head-to-head comparisons, ranked buying guides and explainers on materials and sleep positions. Every one is built on the same standard: the specs manufacturers publish, the research behind them, and a named author who answers for the conclusions. We rank pillows by fill weight, density, loft and certifications, not star ratings or adjectives.

Who Runs Brocia

Brocia is an independent sleep-product analysis site founded in 2023. Our content is written and reviewed by a small team of named specialists Emilia Zyla (material science), Anna Wojcik (sleep ergonomics), and Ahmad Khan (sleep technology) each with a full bio on every article they write and on our latest insight page. We are not generalists rotating through topics; each specialist covers the same scope on every article they touch.

How We Evaluate Pillows

Every recommendation is built from three layers, and every layer is checkable:

Manufacturer-Disclosed Specifications

We start with the numbers brands actually publish: fill weight, loft height, foam density, ILD where disclosed, material composition. A 7 lb buckwheat fill and a 2 lb shredded foam fill behave differently under your head no matter what the box promises. When a manufacturer hides a number, we say so, and estimate the realistic range from published data on that material class, clearly labeled as an estimate, never dressed up as a measurement.

Published Sleep & Materials Research

Every claim about cervical alignment, loft requirements by sleep position, or how viscoelastic foam responds to body heat is grounded in published research from sources like the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and peer-reviewed biomechanics studies. We link the exact source at the exact claim.

Analysis Nobody Else Bothers to Do

Specs and research are public. Turning them into a specific recommendation for your body is the work nobody else does. We cross-reference specs across competing products and translate research into specific buying guidance “if your shoulder gap is 5 inches, target 4.75–5.5 inches of sustained loft” instead of a generic “top 10” list. Our Pillow Loft Calculator applies this same logic directly to your measurements.

What We Don’t Claim

We are not a medical source. Nothing on this site is a diagnosis or treatment. If you have a diagnosed cervical condition, sleep disorder, or post-surgical restrictions, your clinician’s guidance overrides anything we publish.

When we cite someone else’s testing, we name them. If a finding comes from another publication’s hands-on testing, you’ll see whose testing it was, with a link, never absorbed as our own.

If we ever publish our own hands-on measurements, they’ll come with proof: the protocol, the log, and photos of the process. Until an article shows that proof, it’s analysis, and it says so.

Independence

We accept no sponsorships, no paid placements, and no free products in exchange for coverage. Some links on this site are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions have zero vote in our verdicts. If a pillow’s specs don’t hold up, we’ll tell you it’s not worth your money, whoever makes it.

Accountability

Every article is source-checked and editor-reviewed before it publishes, and every factual claim traces to a manufacturer spec or a linked study. Find a number you can’t verify, a broken source, or a claim that doesn’t hold up? Email us. Corrections get made publicly, not quietly.

Questions We Get Every Week

How does Brocia evaluate pillows?

Every recommendation is built from manufacturer-published specs (fill weight, loft, foam density, ILD where disclosed), published sleep and materials research, and named, accountable analysis. Every factual claim traces to a manufacturer spec or a linked study. When a brand hides a number, we say so and label our estimate as an estimate.

Does Brocia physically test every pillow?

No. Unless an article shows its own hands-on measurements, it’s analysis, and it says so. If we publish hands-on measurements, they come with the protocol, the log and photos of the process.

How does Brocia make money?

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions have zero vote in our verdicts.

Does Brocia accept sponsored products or payments from brands?

No. We accept no sponsorships, no paid placements, and no free products in exchange for coverage. If a pillow’s specs don’t hold up, we’ll tell you it’s not worth your money, whoever makes it.

Does Brocia accept sponsored products or payments from brands?

Who writes and reviews Brocia’s content?

Named specialists, listed above. Every article is source-checked and editor-reviewed before it publishes.

How often are reviews and rankings updated?

Our editorial standards carry a last-reviewed date, and we revise guides when a manufacturer changes specs or a source changes.
